Meaning Beyond Materials
MetaMatter is a growing Sheffield-based network that collects suitable clean plastic, turns it into designed products, and traces where the material goes, creating practical, environmental and social value close to home.
The idea
Keep material local. Make its value visible.
Too much plastic disappears into an anonymous system. We want to bring part of that system into the open: shared collection points, understandable sorting, collaborative design, local manufacture and a clear record of the outcome.
The first products are modular planter tiles made from locally collected plastic. They can green walls and fences, support pollinators, improve shared spaces and carry a digital record of the material and people behind them.

The planter tile is a starting point: a modular product that can be installed individually or combined into larger living surfaces.

Square tiles can combine into square, landscape or portrait arrangements. Planter tiles are in development; other applications and rectangular modules are concepts.
